Hello! So the hair, face and body care products post that I have been promising you guys for SO LONG is finally here! :D
It’s a pretty long post which is why it took me so long to write and also, I wanted to make sure that I gave you guys accurate and honest descriptions and reviews of all the products.
So before we start, let me just tell you what this post is actually about.
Basically, these are all the products I use on my hair, face and body. I’ll be giving you guys descriptions of these products and I’ll tell you guys why I love them and what I don’t like about them.
So I guess you could say that this is somewhat of a review post.
The descriptions/reviews that are in bold are my top 6 favourite products. Top 6 because I couldn’t choose just 5. :p
These are the four shampoos/conditioners that I alternate between. I’ve read in several magazines that it’s not healthy for your hair to keep using the same shampoo/conditioner so it’s a good idea to change your shampoos/conditioners every once in awhile. I almost always have these four shampoos/conditioners in my bathroom so that I can choose which shampoo/conditioner I feel like using for the day.
I’m gonna review each of these shampoos/conditioners separately.
Oh, but before that, just so you guys know, my hair is pretty healthy but it can get a little dry because I blow dry my hair. Also, I usually wash my hair everyday. The only times I don’t wash my hair everyday is when I’ve been at home all day and have not gone out at all, then I wash it once in two days.
Dove Dry Therapy shampoo and conditioner available at most major pharmacies and the shampoo section at grocery stores
I find myself reaching for this shampoo/conditioner very often and this is my brother’s favourite shampoo. I use the dry therapy because I blow dry my hair so I need at least one repairing shampoo/conditioner. I love the classic Dove scent and this really leaves my hair feeling very soft although the softness is not very long lasting, maybe about 20-24 hours. But like I said, I usually wash my hair everyday so it doesn’t really make a difference to me. The scent lasts pretty long on my hair. If you have dry hair, I’d definitely recommend this because it does what it promises, it really does keep your hair soft.
Schwarzkoph Gliss Kur Liquid Silk Gloss shampoo and conditioner available at most major pharmacies
This is probably my favourite shampoo/conditioner of the four although I don’t use this as often as I use the Dove, I don’t know why. This one has a very subtle, slightly sweet scent but it’s not strong enough for it to leave a lingering scent on your hair the way the Dove, Sunsilk and Skin Food shampoos/conditioners do. So if you’re not a fan of heavy scents, this is the shampoo/conditioner for you!
As the name promises, this shampoo/conditioner really does leave your hair feeling like “liquid silk” and looking glossy! Even WHILE you are washing your hair, you can feel how soft and silky your hair gets. I think this shampoo/conditioner leaves my hair feeling more silky smooth than looking glossy though. But I am not joking, this really leaves my hair SO SO SO smooth, the only world I can use to describe it is “liquid silk”. It’s a different kind of soft from the Dove shampoo/conditioner though. The Dove leaves my hair feeling SOFT SOFT, like how you’d imagine a pillow to be soft while this one leaves my hair feeling very thick, silky and healthy, if you get what I mean.
Sunsilk Smooth and Manageable shampoo and conditioner available at most major pharmacies and the shampoo section at grocery stores
Okay, I like this shampoo/conditioner and it leaves my hair feeling really nice, but for some reason, it feels really, chemical-y, if that makes any sense. Lol. Like, you just feel like there’re heaps of chemicals in the shampoo/conditioner. Which is why I try not to use this so often, but I really like how it leaves my hair feeling nice and soft. :) The scent is okay, it smells a bit cheap, but it’s okay.
Skin Food Hop Beer shampoo and Conditioner from Skin Food
Okay, ironically, out of the four shampoos/conditioners, this shampoo/conditioner is probably the BEST out of the four. Why is it not my favourite? Because of the scent! The scent of something I put on my hair, face or skin is very important to me because if I don’t like it, I’ll have to be smelling it all day and that’s just not pleasant. I know the way I’m saying this makes it sound like this shampoo/conditioner smells like shit or something but it doesn’t. It’s actually got a really herbal scent to it but I like fresh, citrusy, floral smells. So if you like/don’t mind herbal scents, this is the shampoo/conditioner for you.
Why do I still use it even though I don’t like the scent? Because yes, this shampoo/conditioner is THAT good. It leaves my hair feeling SO soft, SO smooth and feeling really really healthy. If only it smelled different. : /
But honestly you guys, when I use this shampoo/conditioner for a week, I really do notice a difference to my hair. So once in awhile, when I feel my hair needs a little pick-me-up, I use this shampoo/conditioner for a week or two and then switch back to something that smells a bit more pleasant. :p
Btw, there have been guys who have complimented me when I use this shampoo/conditioner though. Go figure. Lol.
Extra Virgin Olive Essence from Skin Food
There was a comment on one of my previous posts telling me that I have very healthy looking hair and asking me what I use. So I am now telling everyone my secret. THIS is what keeps my hair looking healthy and shiny. You guys, I swear by this. I don’t go ANYWHERE without this. I’ve gone through about, 3 bottles already and this hair serum has travelled with me to Japan, Thailand, Philippines, Australia, EVERYWHERE!
Even when I use hotel shampoo/conditioner, which everyone knows is usually shitty, after using this hair serum, my hair feels as soft as ever.
I usually pump out 3 squirts of this serum on my palm, rub my hands together and run it through my hair before I blow dry my hair and I’m done.
This hair serum is not oily at all and I’m telling you, this is a miracle in a bottle, I LOVE THIS, SWEAR BY THIS, GO BUY IT! Lol.
So we’re done with hair care! Moving into body care! :)
I have very dry skin on my body and I have to moisturize my skin everyday coz otherwise, my skin looks like fish scales. Seriously, it is THAT bad.
Adidas Fresh Boost shower gel available at most major pharmacies and the body care section at grocery stores
Omg, I LOVE the scents from the Adidas shower gel range! Before this blue one, I was using the purple one and that smelled heavenly too! This shower gel doesn’t dry out my skin and the scent of the shower gel stays on my skin for quite a long time, longer than your average shower gel. Honestly, the first time I bought these, it was purely because it smelled good. I didn’t expect the shower gels to be very good because Adidas is a sports company, not a body care company. But the quality of these shower gels really surprised me and I really like them! A definite recommendation!
Nivea Intensive Milk body lotion available at most major pharmacies and the body care section at grocery stores
I started using this lotion in high school and it has been a staple for me ever since. It’s moisturizing without being too heavy/oily and this is more suitable for use in the day. As a night cream, it’s probably not so effective if you have very dry skin but this definitely works for the day. I love the classic Nivea scent which is very pleasant but not too overpowering and I have the smaller travel bottle that I take with me whenever I go overseas.
Freeman Replenishing Body Lotion in Shea Butter & Lemongrass available at most major pharmacies and the body care section of grocery stores
So this is another light, day-time moisturizer. If you’re wondering why I use lighter moisturizers when I said my skin is super dry, it’s because I HATE the feeling of a heavy moisturizer on my skin when I’m out during the day.
This lotion absorbs very quickly, even faster than the Nivea and I use this lotion when I know it’s going to be a particularly hot day or when I know I’m gonna be doing lots of running around. It’s moisturizing enough but like I said, use this as a day-time moisturizer if you have very very dry skin like me.
The only thing I don’t like about this moisturizer is the scent! I think it smells like medicine! I only use it because it has fast absorption and it’s fairly moisturizing. Before this one, I was using the lotion (from the same brand) that came in a pink bottle and that one smelt like vanilla and I LOVED it! People used to compliment me on that one all the time and the scent would last FOREVER! I’d apply it in the morning and you’d still be able to smell it in the evening!
Goat Milk & Lavender Body Wash and Milk from Skin Food
Okay, I know this is a product for babies, but I don’t care! These two products are DEFINITELY favourites! They smell like heaven, I love the smell of Lavender and I ONLY use these two products when I’m having a bad day and I need to de-stress so using these two products are a bit of a treat for me! Having a shower with this body wash and then lathering on the lotion after never fail to make me feel relaxed!
The body wash leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth and smelling like heaven and the body milk is VERY VERY moisturizing. It’s a bit heavy to use during the day though so I recommend the lotion for night time use.
Also, because this is a product for babies, there is very little chemicals in this. Skin Food products don’t have much chemicals in them as it is, but this one has even less! If you have sensitive skin, you HAVE to try this!
Moving on to the face!
I have normal skin but it can get dry when I’ve been in an air-conditioned place for too long and it can get oily when I’ve been in the sun for a long time and I have make up on. I do not have sensitive skin and my skin usually reacts very well to most products.
And no, I do not have combination skin, I have normal skin.
Honey Black Tea Jelly Foam facial wash from Skin Food
I actually discovered this facial wash completely by accident. One of my dad’s Skin Food staff asked me to try it and at first I was a bit reluctant because I’m not a fan of the scent of honey because it’s a bit too sweet for me. But when I tried this facial wash, I just fell in love with it! It lathers up really nicely and you only need a little bit for your whole face. And the scent is GORGEOUS! The honey scent is very subtle and you can definitely smell the tea so it’s actually a very fresh, yummy scent. It smells good enough to eat I tell you! Btw, just so you know, it smells different in the bottle and when it’s on your face. But when I’m washing my face with this, I inhale and it just makes me feel SOOOOO good coz it smells delicious! Leaves my skin feeling very soft and supple and does not dry out my skin like some facial cleansers do.
Peach Sake toner from Skin Food
When I first got this toner, the only reason I got it was because I love the scent. :p But now, I ONLY use this toner. Especially in our weather, you want a toner that does its job without being too heavy for your skin. This toner cleanses my skin really well and leaves my skin feeling so refreshed! When you first apply it, your skin feels all cool and tingly and I love it! Light enough to use everyday and smells exactly like it’s name! Peach flavoured sake, yum!
Snow Tea eye serum from Skin Food
I’m prone to dark circles and under-eye bags so I need to use an eye serum to make sure it doesn’t get too bad. The thing is, because I have young skin (and I’m guessing the majority of the people reading this will have young skin too), it’s important to use an eye serum that is not TOO heavy because that could be really bad for your skin too. This eye serum is moisturizing and soothing enough for my skin without being too heavy. I’ve been using this since Skin Food first came into Malaysia and I cannot live without this anymore. It effectively lightens my dark circles and it’s very soothing when I put it on my eyes. Results are not immediate though so you have to use it for a couple of weeks before you see a difference.
To use this, I squeeze a tiny amount on my ring finger, rub both my fingers together and gently pat under and around my eyes until everything gets absorbed into my skin.
Garnier moisturizer available at most major pharmacies and the beauty section of grocery stores
I bought this because I wanted to try a pharmacy brand moisturizer and I’m sorry to say but I am very disappointed with this product. There was no visible difference to my skin when this was supposed to even out my skin tone. The only thing this did for me was probably to make my skin A LITTLE softer right after I used it. Very marginally though, barely noticeable. And this wasn’t very moisturizing either because occasionally, my skin would still feel dry even after applying this moisturizer. I liked the texture of this cream though. It was light and very easy to apply. Oh! But it smells TERRIBLE!
Lettuce and Cucumber Water Drop Essence from Skin Food
This was another product I discovered completely by accident! Again, one of my dad’s Skin Food staff gave this to me to try and I was a bit skeptical at first because it’s an essence. And an essence usually means it’s a heavier moisturizer and that would mean it would feel sticky on my face. But since it was just sitting on my table and gathering dust, I thought why not?
First time I used it, I didn’t like it so much but you can’t form an opinion on a product from using it one time so I continued to use it.
And completely fell in love with it. Lol.
This product has evened out my skin tone, it’s made my skin look brighter and my skin feels alot more supple and soft.
I didn’t really feel the softness immediately after I applied it like I did the Garnier moisturizer but after about 4 days, my skin definitely felt softer!
The only complain I have about this product is the texture of the moisturizer. It’s a bit too watery for my liking because I like my moisturizers to feel a little creamier. But really, the benefits of this moisturizer far outweigh the texture of it. Lol.
And btw, for a water based moisturizer, this is VERY moisturizing without being sticky on your face!
Fresh Juice C serum from Skin Food
The reason I got this was because I was looking for a night cream but I didn’t want something TOO heavy. The first time I used this, I hated it. It made my skin feel sticky and uncomfortable. But like I said, I always give products a second chance. Second time I used it, it absorbed into my skin really fast (sometimes, your skin needs to get used to a product the first time you use it) and you notice the results almost immediately! My skin DEFINITELY looked brighter in the morning and it felt SO soft which is why this has become a favourite! You only need a tiny bit for your whole face so I’m predicting that this is going to last me FOREVER! Lol. Plus, I only use this two or three times a week. Oh! And that dropper thing is so fun to use, I love it! Makes me feel like I’ve brewed my own secret “perfect skin” formula in the Chemistry lab!
Black Sugar mask from Skin Food
This is a Skin Food bestseller worldwide. Although it says it’s a mask, it’s really an exfoliator. I use this once a week and omg, after I’m done, my skin feels so soft and so smooth and so clean! I LOVE this! And honestly, almost everyone I know loves this as well. HOWEVER, PLEASE READ THIS BIT IF YOU HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN! This is a harsh scrub, so if you have sensitive skin, this is not suitable for you! Instead, use the rice mask which is another bestseller!
But because I don’t have sensitive skin, this works wonders for me! I’ve gone through three tubs already and I will not be using any other exfoliator anytime soon, I assure you that!
Btw, I’m sorry that my label is a bit torn up. :p I keep my tub in the bathroom and the label is made out of paper so when it gets wet, it rips easily. :p
Oh and here’s a tip for all of you. Most Skin Food stores should have a sample size of this and the rice mask. Go to the counter and ask for a sample of these if you want to try it! Most stores will have no problem giving it to you. :)
Lemon Pack mask from Skin Food
Lemon is known for it’s brightening effects on dull skin. I use this whenever I’m stressed out or haven’t been getting enough sleep and it’s an instant pick-me-up for my skin. Feels absolutely heavenly when I put it on! Like a splash of cold water and leaves my skin glowing! Smells fresh and clean too! However, this does not leave my skin feeling soft, it is not supposed to. If you want something moisturizing and leaving your skin soft, look below!
Papaya Yogurt mask from Skin Food
Another favourite! This smells like candy and I swear, this is THE BEST mask I have ever used! Often sold out at most Skin Food stores, you should buy two bottles when you see it! Even I have difficulty getting this because it is ALWAYS out of stock! And if they EVER discontinue this, I will MAKE SURE that my father gets EVERY SINGLE BOTTLE from Korea sent down to Malaysia because I NEED a supply of this for the rest of my life! I am not joking, this mask leaves my skin so soft, it’s scary. And it’s so moisturizing without being too heavy. After using this, there is no need for you to use a moisturizer unless you have very dry skin, then maybe a light moisturizer is necessary. But really, BEST FACE MASK, hands down!
Another flavours include banana and kiwi which ALSO smell yums but papaya is my favourite!
As you can see, most of these products, if they’re not from Skin Food, they're from the pharmacy or the body care section of grocery stores. Alot of these product are inexpensive so anyone can just go out right now and buy them without worrying about it breaking the bank! Just because products are cheap does not mean they are not good quality. Remember to always keep an open mind and be willing to try new things. Of course, that being said, don’t go and buy like, pasar malam brands lah. Lol.
And for anyone who has entered a Skin Food store, I’m sure you would have noticed the many mask sheets on display. I will be reviewing those mask sheets in a separate post because although I have used many of them, I don’t use them regularly enough for me to remember what each mask has or has not done for my skin. So I will write another review when I have compiled my top favourite mask sheets. :)
Btw, these are MY opinions on these products. But everyone reacts differently to the different products, I just want to remind everyone that.
Oh, and if you guys want to see video reviews on any of these products so you can properly see the texture of the product or you want me to explain how to use it or whatever especially for the face masks, please leave a comment and I’ll try and get the video up ASAP. :)
Btw, in case you’re wondering, when I was choosing my top 6 products, the Adidas Fresh Boost shower gel, the Nivea Intensive Milk body lotion and the Skin Food Honey Black Tea facial wash were the other three products that I had to cut out of my top 6.
Okay! I really hope this post helped you guys out somewhat! It took me AGES to write so please read it kay! Lol.
